Pediatric Physiotherapy Okotoks

Pediatric physiotherapy Okotoks at Restorative Sports Therapy is where physical therapy meets the world of fun and games. We use play-based and hands-on therapy methods to assess and treat any movement or developmental concerns you and your child may have. In the initial assessment, you can expect your physiotherapist to gather a detailed history from you and your child to ensure that we have a strong understanding of your concerns and goals. Your physiotherapist’s goal is to build a welcoming environment to connect with you and your child in order to support you both in reaching your goals.

What age does pediatric physical therapy include?

Pediatric physiotherapy includes any child from age 0-17, however, if your child is typically developing and over 10 years of age we recommend your youth booking under the general physiotherapy section!

What conditions are treated under pediatric physiotherapy?

  • 0-2 yrs → torticollis/plagiocephaly, hip dysplasia, gross motor delays

  • 2-9 yrs → gait assessment, gross motor delays, disabilities/congenital conditions

  • 10+ yrs → gross motor delays, disabilities/congenital conditions.

What does pediatric assessment and treatment look like at Restorative in Okotoks?

In the assessment, your physiotherapist will begin by asking you and your child some questions to connect with you and gain a better understanding of your child’s history. Once your physiotherapist feels they have gathered the information needed and they have your goals in mind, they will connect with your child through play while assessing their movement.

Treatment will look different for every child depending on their goals, interests, and abilities. You can expect to receive a home program that focuses on integrating “exercises” into your child’s play where possible; in cases where more specific movement patterns are needed, your physiotherapist will find ways to engage with your child and make these as fun as possible!
