Building a strong foundation.
We’ve all done it- went back to the gym or started running too soon after an injury.
It is common to see altered movement patterns or muscle recruitment changes after injures like a sprained ankle, torn Achilles, post surgery, or low back pain- the muscles are inhibited, we may not have the range of motion or strength back, but you feel like you’re ready and just need to squat or run again.
“Don’t put fitness on a movement dysfunction” (Gray Cook)- this can reinforce an altered motor program, encourage improper muscle activation and strengthen a compensation pattern by adding speed, load or volume to the movement too soon. Take the time to RESTORE.
We focus on the 4 R’s to restore your strength in movement. It’s all about restoring function and strength using full body functional movements under load . We will help guide you through the proper way to reload your tissues choosing the best corrective exercise(s) and fundamental movements for the specific demands of your activity. Once you have properly realigned your tissues with mobility and stretching exercises you will be ready for this phase of your treatment. Reach out to us if you feel stuck in your rehab, we are here to meet you where you’re at.
